How To Do A Cooking Demonstration

There a came a moment on Saturday at The Baltimore Book Festival where I looked out at the crowd and down at the food in front of me and realized: "Holy (expletive): I have to cook something for all...Adam Roberts

Where’s the beef?

Theres nothing wrong with entertainment, of course, but perhaps our celebrity chefs should learn the first rule of good dining: even the finest food leaves a sour taste if you eat it every day. So move away from the camera, go back to your kitchens, and come back when we can stomach you again. It might take a while.” - Hugh Wilson, Why we’ve had enough of celebrity chefs Mendoza, Argentina - So, on to the plates, the food, the meat of the matter. Where’s the beef?  read more »

BBQTM

It’s hard for people to understand why they should want to eat old-fashioned Tex-Mex. Let me put it this way: You eat at these old Tex-Mex places for the same reason that you listen to scratchy old recordings of the Delta blues. It’s not about the quality; it’s about getting in touch with the roots [...]

Less Fuss More Flavor: Quick & Easy Gazpacho (Cold Tomato Vegetable Soup) Recipe

Gazpacho: Healthy, Lowfat, Refreshing, & No Cooking Required We do a lot of seasonal eating here on the farm, but seasonal recipe blogging is a whole other thing. Now that the sweltering days of summer are thankfully over, I realize that a refreshing bowl of chilled soup might not be at the top of your Must Eat List right now.  read more »

Menus From JetBlues Food Court of the Future

You might want a digestivo after a layover at Aeronuova. Image courtesy OTG Management Yesterday's renderings of JetBlue’s new fantasy food court got us pretty excited, and that was before we saw the menus for Aeronuova, La Vie, and Loft. Mark Ladner's trattoria puts Sbarro to shame with antipasti like fried eggplant with basil bread crumbs, plus buttered gnudi and truffle pizza. We’ll be grabbing a Mediterranean pan bagnat from Nasr's La Vie before takeoff, and Loft will make banana pancakes, according to menus provided by airport food and beverage operator OTG Management. Scan the menus after the jump.  read more »

DC's Best Macaroni & Cheese

Best_macaroni_and_cheese_DC.jpgA few weeks ago I was raving to my father-in-law about Rustico, a neighborhood restaurant in Alexandria, VA, just outside of DC. Between its 331 types of beer and new American cuisine, I figured it'd be a great place to take him on his next visit. But when I said that my favorite meal there was macaroni and cheese, he laughed. "You go to a restaurant for macaroni and cheese?  read more »

Bar Martignetti

The first time I went to Bar Martignetti was about eight months ago. I met Winette and her husband for a cocktail on my first of several stops one summer night.

"You will love this place," said Winette. "The waiters are all hot and preppy and their uniforms are bright Polos and popped collars."  read more »

No matter where she goes, Winette is always scoping out the wait staff for me. If there aren't any good-looking gentlemen for browsing, she'll probably leave it off our "to do" list. I'm not sure how the cat got out of the bag -- that I'm a sucker for all things preppy, from Barbour jackets to Top-Siders to madras -- but Winette knows me pretty well.

Michel Richard 'Joins' Jeffrey Chodorow at Citrus at Social Tonight!

2008_01_citrus.jpgWhat started in October as phase one negotiations comes to fruition this weekend, as Michel Richard opens Citrus at Social , the restaurant that's taken over Jeffrey Chodorow's very pretty ghost town, Social . The official wording on this venture is that Richard is 'joining' Jeffrey Chodorow to open the restaurant, and that it'll have a seperate entrance and bar area. This is code for Social Hollywood, take two.  read more »

A Delicious Evening of Fun

Oh, I am late getting on here this morning, but I had such a fascinating evening last night and I did not get to bed until gone midnight and then, it took me forever to fall asleep, so I wasn't exactly out of bed at the crack of dawn this morning!

As I have mentioned before, there is going to be a wedding up at the Big House this year as their oldest daughter is getting married. It's all go and decisions and very, very exciting. Last night the people who are going to be doing the catering for the big event, Stuarts - Party Design and Fine Food , came up to the Manor to do a tasting session. (Let's face it, I may be good, but I'm not quite up to catering for 300 plus people!! Although, in all honesty, I'd probably give it a good go if I had to!)  read more »
